Set Up or Edit your APN Access Point Names Android

8:46 PM

An Access Point Name (a.k.a. APN) is the name of a gateway between a data connection and another computer network. So in short, your APN is what helps you connect to your carriers network. Now most of the time you won’t have to touch this information at all, but if you bought a Nexus 4 or some other unlocked device, you might have to. So let’s walk you through it.

Set up your APN

  • 1. Turn on and unlock your phone
  • 2. Go into Settings
  • 3. Tap on More under Wireless & Networks
  • 4. Tap on Mobile Networks
  • 5. Tap on Access Point Names
  • 6. Tap the + symbol at the bottom
  • 7. Fill in the information for your carrier
  • 8. Tap the menu button and select Save

To Edit your APN

  • 1. Turn on and unlock your phone
  • 2. Go into Settings
  • 3. Tap on More under Wireless & Networks
  • 4. Tap on Mobile Networks
  • 5. Tap on Access Point Names
  • 6. Tap on your APN (i.e., T-Mobile US, StraightTalk T-Mobile, Simple, etc.)
  • 7. Change the information needed
  • 8. Tap the menu button and select Save
That’s it. That’s how easy it is to setup and edit your APN. You can check out more of our guides in our Android Beginner’s Guide. If you have anything you’d like us to create a guide on, be sure to leave a comment below.
