Take Great Photos with the BlackBerry Z10's Awesome Time Shift mode

2:22 PM

The BlackBerry Z10 has a pretty awesome camera. Packing 8-megapixels, the shooter is one of the most advanced cameras found on any smartphone on the market. It can also take some great photographs, especially if the user is using the all-new Time Shift mode.

So, just what is Time Shift mode? Well, it's complicated, but it basically allows our camera to capture milliseconds before and after your photo. By doing this you can scroll back on the dial to open one friend’s eyes and then forward to catch your other friend smiling, before combining it all to create the perfect picture.

If this sounds like a feature you'd like to learn about, follow on for more. Here we show you how to use Time Shift easily and quickly. Follow the steps below.
  1. Tap the Camera icon on the home screen.
  2. Next tap the Camera icon on the viewfinder
  3. Select the Time Shift icon. It should be the icon furthest to the left.
  4. Now tap the screen to take the photo.
  5. You will now be given the options to scroll through the seconds before and after the photo was taken.
  6. After your done click on the checkmark to save the photo.
All in all, the Z10 is an extremely stunning smartphone. It couples some great hardware with some pretty decent software. Despite the software and hardware, however,it's missing several key components, especially apps. If you can look past that, though, the Z10 might really be the phone for you. In our review of the BlackBerry Z10, we said:
"The app selection in the BlackBerry World is really lacking. Sure, it will have 100,000 apps by the time the BlackBerry Z10 launches, many of these aren't built specifically for BlackBerry 10 and it shows. Some apps have been ported from Android or use wildly different design approaches but the problem is that a lot just aren't that good.
I also can't find the apps that I love to use on a daily basis, including Chase, Instagram, Pandora, Spotify, Flipboard, Google services, Netflix and no Stitcher. You can find alternatives in the store but I've found that some of these aren't as good as what I'm used to. One podcast-streaming app I use gave me the maddening "feature" of automatically stopping every five minutes, so I had to constantly pull it out of my pocket, unlock the device and hit the play button on the app.

To be fair, we're starting to see some big-name apps come into the the BlackBerry World, as you can get Angry Birds Space, eBay, Skype, WhatsApp, USA Today and others. BlackBerry is doing a good job galvanizing developers and if the BlackBerry Z10 is a success, you can expect more developers to bring their apps over.
The BlackBerry World does have a solid selection of music and videos, though and there will be carrier billing for simple purchasing Long-time BlackBerry fans will be happy to know that you can finally download and install apps on the BlackBerry Z10 without having to restart it. Yes, there are many existing BlackBerry users who have to restart their phones after installing a new app. Yeesh.
The BlackBerry 10 platform is a clean break from the past but it still faces the challenges you'd expect from a new OS: it lacks polish and app support is not close to what you can find on the competition. BlackBerry 10 does some things very well but I'm not sure if that's enough to overcome it's shortcomings."
