Tips For a Better iMessage Experience

7:14 AM

Note: If this tutorial worked for you (and it should work), please leave a comment below. Thanks.

Without a doubt, iMessage is one of the most convenient services that we have on our iPhone, iPod or iPod Touch. However, the app and some of its default settings are not perfect and can even be annoying at times.

Being alerted more than once for the same message, not being able to send more than one photos from within the messages and other such annoyances are something Apple should have fixed long ago. They would eventually. In the meantime, let’s see how we can fix them ourselves for a better iMessage experience.

Send Groups of Photos in iMessage

Sending a photo from your Camera Roll via iMessage is quite convenient. Just tap the camera button, select Choose Existing and then pick the photo you want.

However, if you look carefully, you might have noticed one thing: You can only attach one photo at a time this way. There is no option for adding more photos to your message using this method other than adding them one by one.

Thankfully, there is a very simple workaround to fix this. All you have to do is, instead of going to iMessage, head to the Photos app, open and album or event and tap on Edit at the top right of the screen. From there, select the photos you want to send via iMessage (up to nine at the same time are allowed) and then tap on Share.

From the options available, select iMessage and presto! Your photos will be added to your message and will be ready to send from there.

Get Rid of Multiple Message Alerts

Here is an annoying thing about iMessage that, while not such a big issue, I still find completely incomprehensible: Whenever you get a new message, if you don’t open the Messages app for around a minute or so, you will be reminded of the message yet again. I don’t understand why would Apple set this as the default, but thankfully we can change this setting, although we need to dig quite bit to do it.

To start, open the Settings app on your iPhone and head to Notifications. There, scroll down until you reach the Messages app and tap on it.

Once there, scroll down and select the Repeat Alert option as shown below. There you will be able to select the number of times that you want to be reminded of your messages.
Remember: Choosing Once will cause the app to alert you one more time after its original alert. So if you only want to receive one alert per message, choose Never.

Manage the iOS Devices Where You Get Messages

I’m sure that like me, a lot of you who have an iPhone and other iOS devices find it tremendously convenient to be able to send and receive messages across all of them. On the other hand though, sometimes it can be a bit annoying to see both your iPhone and your iPad alert you the moment you receive a message.

To manage which devices get certain messages, you have to open the Settings app and scroll down to Messages. Once there, tap on Send & Receive.

In the next screen, you will find all the emails associated with your iMessage account. There, all you have to do is to select/deselect the email addresses that you want to receive messages from on the particular device. That way, you can receive messages for only certain accounts on your iPhone and for the rest on your iPad for example.

And that’s about it. Use some (or all) of these iMessage tips to have an even better experience with the Messages app on your iPhone. Enjoy!
