We know that we have come up with this tutorial rather late. Thanks to one of our users for reminding us that we do not have it yet and therefore we are here to fill that vacuum with an easy tutorial for rooting and installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the LTE variants of the Samsung Galaxy S3 from carriers like T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and Rogers. To put in terms of model numbers, the procedure given below can be used to root the following devices on ICS and Jelly Bean: SGH-T999, SPH-L710, and SCH-I747.
Note: If this tutorial worked for you (and it should work), please leave a comment below. Thanks.
Preparations before Rooting
Ready! The tutorial has been divided into 2 parts that involve installing the custom recovery and then flashing the rooting package using the recovery. Okay, now make sure you take care of the following things and download the tools and files required for the drill.Required Downloads:
- Download the Odin tool and unzip it on your PC: Odin3-V3.07.Zip
- Download the ClockworkMod Recovery file: CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-V5.Tar.Md5
- Download the rooting package zip file (do not extract) and copy it to your phone’s internal or external SD card storage: TeamEpic-Root-From-Recovery-V5.Zip
- Download and install the Samsung USB Drivers on you are computer. If you have already installed Kies on your PC, you need not download the drivers. Make sure that Kies is not opened while you use the Odin tool.
Precautionary Steps:
- Charge you phone to at least 60% of battery level.
- Rooting does not wipe any data from your device but we recommend that you create a backup of your contacts, messages, call-log, apps, etc. before as precaution. You can use These Useful Apps for the purpose.
- Turn on USB Debugging from your phone’s Settings> Developer options.
InstallING CWM Recovery and Root Galaxy S3
Having made sure that you have gathered all tools and made all preparations described above, you can move on with confidence to root your phone. So let’s now install the CWM recovery first.- Turn off your phone and boot it into Download mode: hold down the Volume Down, Home and Power keys simultaneously for about 3-4 seconds till you see a warning screen. Press the Volume Up key to continue to the Download Mode.
- Open the Odin folder and run Odin3-v3.07.exe. When it is launched, connect your Galaxy S3 to computer and wait till the ID:COM port at Odin turns blue and you see “Added!!” in the message box below. This indicates a successful connection and if you do not see this, make sure that the drivers have been installed and the USB cable has been properly connected.
- “Auto Reboot” and “F Reset Time” options are selected by default. Make sure that you deselect “Auto Reboot“.
- Now click on PDA button and select the “CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5.tar.md5″ file.
- And then hit the “Start” button on Odin. This will initiate installation which will take just a few seconds. ClockworkMod Recovery has now been installed on your phone but it is not rooted yet.
- Since we did not chose the phone to reboot automatically, we’ll have to do it manually and boot it into CWM Recovery mode this time. This is how you can do it: press and hold the Volume Up + Home + Power keys at the same time. Keep these keys pressed till your phone vibrates and you see the Samsung logo with device name. Then release the power keys but keep the other 2 keys pressed till you see a menu in blue text.
- Note that you will have to use hard keys like the Volume and Power buttons to scroll and select options. Scroll down to “install zip from sdcard” and select the rooting package file “TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5.zip” and confirm the selection.
- When it is installed, go back and select “reboot system now”.
